Viewed 25 times

On September 9, 2025, Biodiversa+ will launch a new call for transnational research projects co-funded by the European Commission on Restoring Ecosystem Functionality, Integrity and Connectivity (called BiodivConnect). Get ready and start building your project now!

The BiodivConnect call is launched by the European Biodiversity Partnership as part of Horizon Europe - Biodiversa+. As part of the flagship program "Supporting the protection and restoration of biodiversity on land and at sea", it will contribute to achieving one of the partnership's strategic objectives: to generate applied, practical and usable knowledge to support transformative change aimed at halting and reversing biodiversity decline (Biodiversa+ Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda).

Background and research priorities

BiodivConnect aims to support innovative research that will contribute to achieving and respecting European and globalbiodiversity commitments by and beyond 2030 (e.g. Kumming Global Biodiversity Framework). The results will be designed to be integrated into nature restoration practices. The aim is to foster interconnected, ecologically functional ecosystems and habitats. Particular attention is paid to the sustainability and adaptability of restoration actions, and to assessing their effectiveness over time and at different spatial scales (local, regional, transboundary, global, etc.).

The call covers all types of ecosystems and habitats, in all regions of the world. It supports high-quality research and innovation projects adopting holistic, systemic and integrated approaches. Proposed projects may cover various aspects such as: different categories of indicators; multi-scale studies and replicability of restoration efforts; consideration of ecological, socio-economic and socio-cultural dimensions, and/or different levels of environmental regulation and policy, harmonization, etc.

Building international research consortia

Consortia must include research teams from at least 3 countries participating in the call, including at least two EU member states or associated countries.

Call schedule and submission and evaluation procedure

The official opening is scheduled for September 9, 2025, and a bidding process will be organized in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Submission of pre-proposals early November 2025
  • Stage 2: submission of full proposals early April 2026
