IOC and IRD strengthen ties to stimulate new scientific cooperation
On May 19, a meeting between the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) and IRD in Rio de Janeiro brought together researchers and representatives from both institutions, with the aim of exploring new prospects for Franco-Brazilian scientific cooperation. The event provided an opportunity to consolidate existing partnerships, and to consider new collaborations for the future.
Discussions focused on setting up new joint projects and developing scientific mobility between the two countries, notably through researcher exchanges.
Already involved in several joint initiatives, including the international MOSAIC project and training programs for healthcare professionals, the IOC and IRD intend to further expand their collaboration in priority areas such as infectious diseases, environmental health and the scientific community.
On the Brazilian side, the meeting mobilized several IOC executives and researchers, including:
- Norma Brandão, Vice-Director of Education, Information and Communication
- Eduardo Volotão, Vice-Director of Reference Laboratories and Biological Collections
- Luciana Garzoni, Vice-Director, Research, Technological Development and Innovation
- José Bento Pereira Lima, Head of Insect Vector Biology, Control and Surveillance Laboratory
- Vanessa Salete de Paula, coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine
- Chrisovam Barcellos, Researcher, Institute for Scientific and Technological Communication and Information in Health (ICICT)
- Carlos Eduardo Rocha, assistant to vice-director Norma Brandão
- Anna Cristina Carvalho, coordinator of institutional cooperation
The French delegation included :
- Abdel Sifeddine, IRD representative in Brazil
- Vincent Corbel, IRD researcher and visiting professor at IOC
- Julio Benavides, IRD researcher
- Erica Telford, Inserm researcher
The meeting was also attended by Ilka Vilardo, International Cooperation Advisor at the Center for International Health Relations (Cris/Fiocruz), underlining the importance of inter-institutional dialogue in a context of shared global challenges.
